About the Site

A Random String of Bits is a self-indulgent blog about technology, programming, games, Doctor Who, puzzling, language, Feminism / Social Justice and whatever else I feel like talking about. I especially like writing about the intersection of two or more of these things. Feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed if this sounds even vaguely interesting.

I like to tell myself it is intelligently written, witty, and deeply interesting, but I’ve been known to lie, so I don’t know if I trust myself on that. Caveat lector.

What you won’t find here is me talking about what happened in my day, or how I am coping with my latest stressful life event. Those might be things worth talking about, but that’s what twitter, tumblr, and Google+ are for. The is blog is for, at the very least, things I think might be interesting to someone who doesn’t know me.

About the Author

A Random String of Bits is generated by me, an IT professional in my 20s.  My interests include, well, a lot of things: programming, Linux, video gaming, table-top roleplaying, speculative fiction, linguistics, strategy board games, and the applications of discarding Aristotlean Logic.

I enjoy using parenthetical phrases (such as this one), observing technology’s effects on culture, the Oxford comma, and over-used grammar jokes.

Full disclosure:  I work for Red Hat, Inc.  Obviously, the views expressed here are not necessarily the views of Red Hat, and this is a completely personal, independent site. I just want my biases to be out in the open, such as they are. I am also an obsessive fan of Doctor Who, and I have never been outside of the United States of America (although my travels within it have stretched up and down much of the East coast and as far west as Colorado).
